WASHINGTON (NNS) -- Tom W. Freeman, who has been promoting the Navy
and Marine Corps team and their history through his artwork for the
last 20 years, met with the Honorable Hansford T. Johnson, acting
Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV), June 17 to present a painting entitled
“Payment in Iron.”
Johnson said he was impressed with both the detail of the artwork, and
the story it brings to life. “This painting tells a powerful story of
our Navy in the early years. This was a special point in naval history
that we don’t often think about.”
Freeman said that when he creates a painting, he does his best to
ensure it is historically accurate. “My artwork reflects the valor and
sacrifice these Sailors have paid over the years,” he said. “It’s
