Can anyone produce a FMECA for marine diesel engine. I need it to implement
RCM for the ship's propulsion system.
Thanks

Cheers

First try the manufacturer of your specific engine for help. Failure mode
analyses are rather rare on diesel engines since diesels have been around
for awhile. If it's for a sub it's more critical. I think one was done for
frigates' diesel generators over 20 years ago. That would be close enough
for an RCM. Some reliability failure data on your engine might be more
helpful for your reliability centered maintenance analysis. The FMECA is a
design tool; the RCM more of a logistics one. Just don't go back and do an
FMEA on something designed a century ago for a simpleassed RCM. An afternoon
with an old diesel mechanic would be better than an fmea anyhow. :-)
