Depend of how is programmed the screen saver... Actually there are a X
window screensaver whose simulate a radar PPI, and is mildly boring, but
I guess I can hack it to render him more lively ;)
Best regards from Italy,

P.s. I can point to the source tarball of Xscreensaver, so we can do a
"s.m.n. coding competition" ? ;)
You bet and you can actually get paid to use it! It is updated to more
modern standards but if you pass the class and qualification process
you can even use it in a real-time environment. Good Luck! ;)

The nearest commercial approximation I know of is the PC game "Dangerous
Waters", or the older "688I Attack Submarine".

Have you used it? Any details you can share? Specs of hardware? I'm
not sure what would be so special.....
How many push-ups must I complete?
They have a limit for the first few weeks to get you into shape.
Later they can add more. When I was in I think the limit was 30 the
first four weeks. Now days it's probably 15.
;)

uhm... I guess that save a certain ability (whose should be not
nominated) in a Navy today there's not much need of physical prowess,
save for the DC people, IMVHO

Ugh... I'm wondering since westerday on how I have so spectacularly
forgotten these *basics* of seafaring :#( I duly apologize....

I'm not worried about any of that. I just wanted to study the SONAR
interface
without having to use it in a real-life situation.
I keep hearing about this Hunter Killer software.
That's easy to find yet something made by the Navy is not.
This sort of reminds me of that Doom mod for the marines that came out
in the
early to mid 90s. I couldn't find that either and I wondered if it was
because it was
produced for the military.
Has anyone noticed that the software the military shouldn't let out
gets out, and
the software that would help Americans learn more about the service
doesn't?

Here's a screensaver that does a pretty decent job of looking like an active
stack....
(except for the rotating pulse, that's more like radar)

No. If you don't believe me, go play "Dangerous Waters" or "America's
Army".

A similar screensaver is available for Linux/X11, but definitively much
more plain and simple; I have previously suggested of do an
"improvement" competition between the s.m.n. coders/programmers, but
seems that there are not much interest in this...
on the latter, I'm wrong, or was at the centre of a rather larger
'Net-wide flame, about its recruitment propaganda value & effectiveness ?
