I am not certain which is more interesting (a) that the Iranians fired
at civilian airlines or (b) that they missed.

According to the classified information, Irans Revolutionary Guard
fired a TOR-M1 surface to-air-missile at a civilian airliner in June 2007.

The following year, in May and June 2008, Iranian antiaircraft batteries
fired on yet another civilian airliner, as well as an Iranian
reconnaissance drone, and one of Irans own F14 fighter jets.

I thought that that system had limited detection range and
was considered useful mainly against targets lower than
10,000 ft.

I wonder what would happen if Iran did hit an airliner :(

After the Vincennes incident, I'd think of all places the memory of that incident would cause people to make super sure of the target before touching off a rocket.
