Qerwote:
I have three shoe boxes full of my dad's collection of postcards
dating from 1932 to 1995. Have recently been going through them.
While in the war, my dad was in Germany, France, Northern Ireland,
Iceland and possibly a few other places.
He didn't own a camera so he bought postcards from where ever he was.
Sometimes people gave them to him when they knew he was collecting
them. I will periodically put up a few of his collection in the
future:

Uncwote.
Paderborn was the home of the german armored forces and had the panzer
training school.
it was the site of a battle late in the war when the U.S.3rd Armored
division overran it and recieved a bloody nose doing so when the germans
counter-attacked. Major General Maurice Rose the division commander was
killed when he was captured and shot in the head by a german soldier with a
machine-pistol, Rose made a sudden move and the german gave him a burst,
his helmet is in the George S Patton Armor Museum at Fort Know. it's pretty
mangled.

So would he have come in later or been with the tanks? Or with the
reinforcements perhaps.
As a sharpshooter what would his role have been?

he'd have been very near the front.
you can't be a sharpshooter from the rear.
and it's very telling that in the pictures he always has his rifle.
I wish his daughter the very best with the project. Thanks for the
advice. I posted the link here on her blog.
Steer her towards soc.history.war.world-war-ii...it's moderated,
so no Otis, etc.

Aw, they just won't let you be your sunny self .............It is
no Alt.War.Civil.USA :-)......Seriously, I agree, but there are people
over there who know what they're talking about and you don't have to
wade through spam.

I find it much better these days and haven't had a post refused in months.
On the other hand I doubt they'd print much from you, you're a loon...

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland
I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the Newborough gate
All these moments will be lost in time, like icecream on the beach
Time for tea.
No ray, it just resticts crazies...
