I've been experiencing "attacks" of acute pain in my right eye for the last
three days. The episodes are very brief and very intense, lasting only for
a couple of seconds or so. The first time it happened I thought I'd caught
a shard of glass (somehow) or been bitten on the eye by a bug or something.
Afterwards I feel no pain at all and there doesn't appear to be any redness
in the area. No problems with my vision either. The attacks occur about
three times a day. The pain seems to be eminate from the corner of my eye
closest to my nose. Also, if it matters, I'm 37 yrs. old.
Anyone ever heard of anything like this?

Thank you.

It's hard to conceive of any significant condition that would do this, so we
generally end up blaming it on an "irritated" pain nerve fiber or ending.
Anything serious would not go away in 2 seconds.

Try some artificial tears; sometimes a dry eye can cause a "stabbing
sensation" that you are describing.

No it doesn't. Iritis is a constant throbbing pain that also
presents with photophobia (light sensitivity) and ciliary
injection (redness around the "white part of the eye). None
of these were listed as symptoms.

Iritis was the diagnosis when I had sharp, stabbing pains
in my eye many years ago.
