What's a catarct operation like these days? I had one ten or fifteen years
ago. Then I had to wear an eye patch for about three days and avoid bending
over. I was not supposed to drive with the patch - I had to have a driver
to get home, then back again to have the eye patch removed. No pain.
Otherwise uneventful except for suspense in wondering if my eye still
worked while waiting for patch to be removed. It was fully covered ny
Medicare and supplement.

Can I drive this time? Cabs are very expensive.

Is that still how it goes?

How safe is it? I keep hearing about hospital infections and errors. I know
the eye center is not a hospital but still...

TIA

Ken

Hi Ken,
Cataract operations have gotten better.
I had a plastic shield that I used at night. I was very careful for
the two to three weeks I would it.
I obtained a Snellen charge - and verified my distant vision at in the
20/25 to 20/20 range.
I also checked my refractive status.
After eight weeks, with everything OK - I had the other eye done.

But be sure to find a GOOD ophthalmologist to do it. Check with the
experience of others who have had it done from THAT MD.

Good luck!
