Hi,

Doc. dictated in body of letter pt. had borderline diabetes.
Then, in the impression, pt has diabetes mellitus. Can these two be
interchangeable? I'm thinking not, but not a typist of a lot of
endocrine/int. med.

Thanks,

Carol V.

I don't know if this will help, Carol, but my older sister once told
me she never knew she had T2 diabetes until she contracted breast
cancer for the first time.

Her doctor then told her he had considered her a borderline diabetic
since she was able to control it with diet alone.

Just a thought.

Sorry about your sister. Breast cancer sucks. It seems that if someone
needs to control it with any method, including just diet, you still have
diabetes, otherwise you would be able to eat whatever you want. I'm
considered "borderline", but my glucose will go way over what it should
if I eat a bowl of sugar-sweetened cereal, drink a regular Coke, or eat
a baked potato. IMO, that's definitely diabetic. It's just controlled
without meds.
