Looking for any ideas for the gifts. The only thing I can come up

Personally, I would think a nursing home resident, without any family,
would cherish personal time talking with someone more than anything else.

Back in 2003, I was forced to live for a week in a combination rehab
center/nursing home for the elderly. Having had a first hand look at
all those lonely people, I agree with Marsha's above comment. The
boring, long days for many of them was spent sitting outside their
rooms gazing off into space or wandering up and down long corridors
with walkers or wheelchairs.
Simply having a caring person visit them would break the monotony. In
fact, you might not have to talk much, just listen while they share
memories of their family with you. If you have children, perhaps you
could bring some photographs with you and ask to see theirs.
This is just my opinion, but do give Marsha's idea some thought.
