What a beautiful cat! Is his/her fur as soft as it looks?

My mom has a cat that looks very much like this. She got it from a neighbor's
farm when it was a kitten. The funny thing is, they have no other cats that
look anything like that! Genetics is a funny thing.

If you are talking about Simon, the Ragdoll, yes, his fur is very soft, they
say like a rabbit. The neat thing is that he requires very little upkeep by
his humans, unlike the Persian we recently acquired.

When do we get to see pictures of the Persian? And what name did you/we
finally settle on?

The Persian is very skittish, and so far I have not been able to get a
decent picture of her. Since she has about eight different hair lengths, I
thought it would be a good 'before' picture. I will keep the camera at the
ready and keep trying.

The latest name is Skitty - short for Skittish Kitty.

Kristin like Ursula, but I don't think that one is going to stick. Sarah
like Precious, but she really is not precious. I still like Cooter, but am
calling her Skitty in the hopes that she will eventually respond to that
name. Right now she only responds to Kee Kee, but as I've mentioned before,
she is not the sharpest tack in the box.

Neal,

I love those pics - especially the last one with the cat asleep on top of your
books! They are adorable!

Okay I'm jumping in to a cat thread! Believe it or not I have a cat. Now,
I don't hate cats, but I'm basically a dog person. We have always had
outside cats around the barn and have had a house cat or two, but my
husband, who is an ardent cat lover, refuses to keep the litter box clean,
and I refuse to deal with a litter box. But, the cats have always radiated
to Bob! We have a special place to feed the outside cats where the dogs
don't have access, etc.

Well one of the outside cats has adopted me!!!!!! I have no idea why, but
she has decided I am her person. My husband let her in the house a couple
of times, but now it's become a regular thing in the morning for her to come
in with me when I get back from my pickups.

Incidentally, Neal, she looks like your Samantha, but with a sleeker
"Siamese" look to her face. Your cat pictures are great! Waiting for one
of the Persian.

Sucker that I am I am now buying her some special cat food treats for
morning. She wants to sit on my lap while I type, which would be fine if
she didn't want to help me type. she is fascinated with my fingers flying
over the keys. I have even bought her a toy!

My daughter is the big cat lover in the family, lives in NJ. They just lost
their flame-point Himaylayan, and were devastated. They are in the process
of getting 2 rag dolls, a blue lynx point female, and a flame point male.
They have heard great things about the Rag Dolls, so we shall see.

So, okay, I may join the threads about cats once in a while since I have
apparently now been adopted as a cat owner. I have no idea why this cat
chose me!

Incidentally, I haven't named her yet. Just can't seem to think of
something appropriate. I'm one of those who thinks names are important,
used to have a terrible time thinking of appropriate names for the 10 or 12
foals we used to have every year when we were actively breeding horses!
Most of our barn cats aren't named, except the yellow tom, or the money cat,
the old lady, etc.! So far this is just the black and white one!

LOL! It's all over but signing the surrender. You are now officially a cat
person, as it is commonly miscalled. We all know what that actually means
is that you are a cat's person - welcome to the furry club. That Siamese
coloring should have warned you. She undoubtedly inherited some of the Thai
alley cat scheming mind along with the Thai alley cat coloring.

I keep the cat bag over the back of my typing chair so it's handy when I sit
down (Snugglis are good). That way I can drop cat into bag, where it will
usually burrow down and go to sleep out of sight of flying fingers. Also,
some of the weight is off my thighs if it's one of my fat boys who is the
lap cat of the moment, and if I have to get up in a hurry I don't have to
negotiate cat rearrangement first.

Right now she asks to go out again after she has been in a little while, and
that's fine with me. she comes in a couple of times a day to socialize!

She's not siamese colored--just has that angular Siamese face. We have had
4 or 5 Siamese over the years and most of the barn cats go back to them.
Every once in a while a siamese-colored kitten turns up, often with some
white markings thrown in! But this one is just an alley cat, but small and
built somewhat like a siamese, lean and angular.

My husband thinks it hillarious that she has adopted me!

I finally got a couple of pictures of the Persian. Most were white blurs,
but a couple of fair, at least.

Glad you like it - it seemed to suit a black and white cat, and sorta
suggests Cinderella, which seems appropriate seeing how long its taken you
to find the cat that fits you <smile>. And I'll bet your husband gets
another laugh out of the acronym ;-)

Considering the names you've run through for her in the last few weeks, she
wouldn't know what to answer to if she had a genius IQ. Maybe you should
call her Skitty Kee Kee for a little while, until she associates Skitty with
the name she knows, and then you can drop the Kee Kee.

Hey, good thinking! Actually, that is what we are doing - calling her
Skitty Kee Kee right now. I almost ruinized my knees, crawling around the
house trying to take her pic.

I can second that. Very soft fur and keeps pretty well w/o much grooming.
