Hello,

72 yr old.
Have to use the bathroom 3-4 times per night.
No other problems, just the frequency.

Just thought i'd ask here, before my next Dr. appointment.
So much good advice and info. from you folks.

Have tried Fosomax for 6 months with absolutely no change.
Have tried Avodart for 6 months next; also absolutely no change.

So, what's likely the next step ?

Any other medications worth a try, or... ?

Thanks,
Bob

Try a common NSAID (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug) before going
to bed at night.
i.e. Aspirin, Acetaminofen, Ibuprofen, Naproxin, etc. If you take one
of these for other pains, take the same type at night. Do not take any
that you have never taken before to prevent possible unwanted side effects.
For many, it reduces the number of trips to the bathroom.
I take aspirin.

You might want to consider Terazosin. It will not shrink the prostate
but does have a considerable effect on urine flow.and no negative sexual
side effects . I have taken it for over 5 years and only need to get up
once a night.

It does reduce blood pressure so you need to factor this in.

Haven't been a regular in this group since the
"last century."

I've played the bph game for nearly 20 years.
Unmedicated I'm what this group used to call a
'4x' toilet visitor each night.

First 10 years was with Saw Palmetto 3/da and
that held me. E.D. began to creep up on my life
so began Viagra and made the switch to Terazosin
(Hytrin), 1mg per day.

Five years ago I switched to Levitra. More
recently, I had a fall when I "got dumb" and
took some Levitra too close to a dose of
Hyrtin--and wound up on the floor.

Last year I entered a trial for Cialis as a sub
for both the Hytrin and the Viagra. Didn't get
the bph relief that Hytrin, by itself, gave me.

Uro then tried me on Cardura (2mg) for several
months. It's a 'softer' med than Hytrin --
slower to act, but seemed to have a longer
half-life. Hope was that it would interact less
with Levitra. I prefer the quick action of
Hytrin so persuaded the Uro into giving me one
Hytrin (1mg) each morning with an option for a
second Hytrin in the afternoon if I need it and,
promise to use it >4hr before swallowing either
Viagra or Levitra. That worked well for a
couple of months.

Then, I thought, why not mix Saw Palmetto with
Hytrin. I've been trying that for several
weeks. First with 2 capsules of Saw each day
plus 1mg of Hytrin. Looked like the E.D was
getting worse on 2 caps of Saw. So now, it's
one cap of Saw and one Hytrin each day. For two
weeks this has worked without need for a second
Hytrin. The Saw seems to extend the effect of
the Hytrin throughout the day and into the
evening. Feels like Cardura but the quickness
of a second Hytrin is always available.

Think I'll try to find a nearby source for
Pumpkin Seed extract. Never tried it but have
heard that it helps Saw do its job.
