I had a stomach virus this week and my doctor prescribe Flumadine.
At $26.99 for just 14 pills...what exactly does this medication do.
How is this virus transferred?

Amantadine (Symmetrel) and rimantadine (Flumadine) are effective in
the prophylaxis and early treatment of influenza A infections.
It seems to prevent host cells from being infected by the virus
by interfering with a viral protein essential for infectivity.
They also interfere with the assembly of new virus particles.

These drugs aren't useful against influenza B or other viral infections.
I'll assume the doctor knew what s/he was doing when such a drug was
prescribed.  Most cases of the "stomach flu" aren't influenza A.
