People receiving the OspA vaccine can still be tested for lyme. The
vaccine will interfere with testing by whole cell ELISA and IFA
protocols. However, valid results can still be obtained using ELISA or
Dot Blot assays based on recombinant antigens (except of course OspA/B),

western blots (when the vaccinated status is known to the testing
facility), and DNA analysis such as PCR and LCR. In addition, a new
ELISA based upon whole cell antigens derived from an OspA/B deficient
mutant has been published and is under evaluation to specifically
address diagnostic problems associated with OspA-vaccinated individuals.
