Try not to forget the part where Perle's "Securing the
Realm" and "Rebuilding America's Defenses" complete
with the part where we need "forward bases,"
"pre-emptive peace," and a catalytic event like a new
Pearl Harbor, are identical to Bush Doctrine.

'Complete with the national string of prisons and
pediatric jails and enterprise, but because of all the
P&F in Hartford (by white people), the contract went
to Halliburton.
And lastly, try not to forget the part where Rowland
bragged about being a "national security advisor to
George W. Bush." It's not Israel's fault that Cheney
and Rummy bought into the collective psychosis of Team
B. Feith, Wolfowitz, Perle, Libby, all Straussians,
believed, and operated upon the principal that they
are intellectually superior to the rest of us, and
that all men are basically evil, but will respond only
to force and military muscle. Religion is good for
the masses, they say. Keeps em in line. Straussians
are atheists.
So, we can leave Israel out of it, because a lot of
them are actually religious people and believe in God.
You know the God who said, "I AM THE LORD THY GOD,
THOU SHALL PUT NO FALSE GODS BEFORE ME." That would
be, you know, the folks who think they are the
intellectual elite who made the decision *themselves*
that all men are basically evil. God said He made man
in His own image.

Israeli Lobby Isn't Actually Mysterious

At an informal reception a few years ago for the
essayist and journalist Jeff Greenfield, at The Mark
Twain House & Museum in Hartford, a guest asked him
why there were so many Jews in journalism.
In a different environment, coming from perhaps a
different mouth, such a question might have frozen the
glasses of white wine in mid-air. It is the kind of
question that often has a problematic subtext: Why are
there so many Jews in journalism and, oh, by the way,
why do you control international banking and Hollywood
and the kosher pastrami market?
With no neo-Nazi vibes apparent, a relaxed Greenfield
gave the only honest answer: There are so many Jews in
journalism because there are so few professional
Jewish hockey players.
Perhaps the last Jewish conspiracy theory capable of
sustaining itself on these shores (the Mideast is
still home to almost all of them) is the notion that a
Jewish cabal has taken over the tiny brain of
President Bush, for purposes of invading Iraq, scaring
Iran, and preserving Israel as perhaps the only nation
on Earth that really does have quite a few Jewish
hockey players.
Yes, they are known as the "neoconservatives," which
in the unofficial Washington-speak used as shorthand
for "Jewish Republicans." They are bloodthirsty on
international affairs and at the end of the day, they
gather together in underground bunkers beneath the
neighborhood synagogue, to plot the next entanglement
between the United States and Israel.
The theory imagines all the Jews in a crafty aggregate
to pressure America to sustain an alliance with
Israel, based on the religious fervor of the tribe
rather than America's best interests.
This "dual loyalty" issue has been used as a club
against almost every ethnic group to reach these
shores, at one time or another (even as we speak,
Mexicans in America are being bashed for flying
Mexican flags at recent pro-immigration rallies.).
The notion that Jews control American foreign policy
has raised more than the usual amount of ire, in part
because Jews are particularly sensitive to the
slippery slope that comes with reckless chatter; in
part because the idea is ridiculous; and in part, of
course, because the Jewish conspiracy controls the
nation's news media (oops).
The latest broadside came in the form of a "working
paper" from the Kennedy School of Government at
Harvard. The school's academic dean and a political
scientist from the University of Chicago teamed up to
blame the "Israeli Lobby" for encouraging a close
alliance between the United States and Israel, to the
detriment of the United States.
The essay prompted the expected responses, from other
professors and journalistic essayists (even the
Christian kind); and, dare we say the words out loud,
the Israeli Lobby - which, truth be told, is pretty
good at defending the notion that Israel is America's
most reliable, least nutty, most democratic pal in the
Middle East.
Somewhere in all this inevitably comes the old
argument about whether one can be "anti-Israel"
without being anti-Semitic - a popular question in
academic circles, where Middle East Studies
departments spew more nonsense about Israel than most
Arab propaganda offices, while intimidating Jewish
students in the classroom.
Catholics with long memories might remember the days
when President Harry Truman tried to nominate the
nation's first ambassador to the Vatican - which
prompted all manner of howling about recognizing a
religious-flavored jurisdiction that held magical
powers over its faithful millions. Could you be
anti-Vatican ambassador, without being anti-Catholic?
Well, sure, but most of the objections were good
old-fashioned Catholic baiting - and it was fun.
The verdict of history will be this: Of course, Israel
has the benefit of a sophisticated, clever and
passionate Israeli Lobby in the United States - much
like the Saudi princes and the American sugar farmers
and thousands of other folks interested in the foreign
policy direction of the United States.
The issue is whether the cause is just. The public
opinion polls in America are clear. The Jews, the
Catholics and the Protestants are overwhelmingly
supportive of Israel - with enough quibbles about the
particulars to keep the Israeli Lobby busy for decades
to come, because no one, not even those crafty Jews,
controls American foreign policy.
