Does the 2lb diet ban any foods? I eat a lot of fruit - but fruit is heavy
relative to other foods. How does this work in to the diet regime?
Hugh
Hi Hugh,
I am your age and have lost 25 lbs using the 2PD, going from BMI of
29.5 to 26. The weight loss is continuing about about one pound per
week rate. The 2PD diet, as I understand and practice it, does not
forbid any foods. But you will end up forbidding certain foods for
yourself. E.g., a can of Coke weighs 12 ounces. Frankly, I don't
like Coke enough to spend 1/3 of my daily allowance to drink one.
Same thing with drinking a glass of orange juice or milk. I don't
care for it enough to spend that much of my allowance on it. Now, a
six oz glass of wine with dinner is another thing altogether. In
addition to weighing the food, I have also adopted the practice of
eating all meals buffet style, i.e., I serve my plate, weigh it, and
then leave the serving dishes on the counter instead of putting them
on the table. This makes it a lot easier to avoid the temptation of
seconds. Another thing is eating no snacks. Eating consists of three
meals per day and that's all. Usually, breakfast and lunch weigh 8
ounces each and dinner weighs 16 ounces. Dinner's main course usually
is beef once or twice a week and fish or foul the rest of the time.
The fact is that 2 pounds of well chosen and prepared food is quite
enough for me. I don't go around feeling hungry at all or being
tempted to cheat. I'm enjoying this. I'm also enjoying fitting into
clothes that I haven't been able to wear for many years. I'm also
enjoying the fact that I can see that I will be able to maintain my
weight loss once it stabilizes.
Your mileage may vary, but I'd suggest giving it a try.
John

Good.
> Does the 2lb diet ban any foods?
The 2PD approach does not ban any foods. It does require supervision by
a doctor who may ban sodium for those who are hypertensive and
fat/cholesterol for those who have high serum cholesterol.

The density is roughly the same as for other foods.

Fruits are not banned for the 2PD approach.

So, it is a case of getting a sensible balance weighing everything, and
sticking within the 2lbs a day limit?
I am on BP meds. I try to avoid stuff with salt, but presumably one needs
some sodium in the diet? If so, what should the limit be?

Congratulations with your weight loss.
May I ask you how many servings of vegetables and fruits per day are you
eating?
Mirek
John probably will need your definition of "one serving" in terms of
ounces since he is weighing his meals.
Yes. Greater detail can be found at:

There is really no way to have a no-sodium diet.
> If so, what should the limit be?
We typically have people with hypertension try to take in less than 3
grams of sodium per day.
Correct.
The right question is:
How many grams of vegetables and fruits per day are you eating?
