Introduction
------------
Today, I sit here in the recliner looking out the bay window at the
beautiful trees God made, and think about life. After eight and a
half years the growth in the volume of work and the stress of the job
led me to request, and receive, a lesser challenging appointment. Now
I feel empty, like I am not doing enough, not worth anything. Today -
well I need to fill up the car and go grocery shopping. Need to?
Well, I guess I don't need to do either one of those things.
When you are young you look at your future, your hopes, your dreams,
your aspirations. You ask and seek God's will and plan for your life.
When you know His will, you do all you can, with His help, to prepare
yourself and follow His plan. Most get married and have children.
Life is full. It has meaning.
In time the children grow up; have their own lives and families. Your
work schedule slows down or you retire, you don't have a job to go to
every day, don't have anyplace you need to be. Life can seem
worthless and empty. You take a nap in the afternoon; wake up only to
still be tired and count the hours till bedtime. We used to think
this would be the greatest time of our lives, but it can be a very
lonely time. Life has to be more than this. Someone once said our
best days are not the days we lay around the house, but the days we go
to bed exhausted because of what we were able to accomplish. This is
so true, but what can we do about it?
Suggestions
-----------
First, remember God still has a purpose for our lives today, just as
He did back in our younger days. God has us here for a reason. Have
you ever thought it is like going a full circle? We find ourselves
asking, once again, "Who am I? What good am I? What am I going to do
with my life? What am I able to do? What is God's will and purpose
for me?"
Second, listen, and be willing to follow Him. God knows your
capabilities, our health, our weaknesses, our age and physical
handicaps. He knows all about us. He made us and wants to use us,
just as we are.
Dear Lord I'll be a witness,
If you will help my weakness,
I know that I'm not worthy Lord of Thee;
By eyes of faith I see Thee,
Upon the Cross of Calv'ry,
Dear Lord I cry, let me Thy servant be.
JESUS USE ME,
And O Lord don't refuse me,
For surely there's a work that I can do;
And even though it's humble,
Lord, help my will to crumble,
Though the cost be great I'll work for you.
Jack & Billy Campbell
"Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don't try to figure
everything out on your own. Listen to God's voice in everything you
do, everywhere you go; He's the one who will keep you on track."
