The Mathematical Substructure Underlying Quantum Field Theory, and Why I Like Anthony Zee's Book so Much
Dear Friends: I have often made reference to the textbook by Anthony Zee, Quantum Field Theory in a Nutshell. One of the things I find very attractive about this book is the way in which he deals very simply with the mathematical substructure which underlies quantum field theory. I specifically have in mind Appendix 1 in Chapter 1.2 and his overall... more »

Dense Linear Ordering problems.
I have two clusters of questions. Conjecture 1: ========== Any countable dense linear ordering with no end-points is order-isomorphic to any other. This is easily proved with AC, is that right? In fact, it only needs DC, is that right? But CC is not sufficient, is that right? (I'd guess this is hard.)... more »

JSH: JSH successfully self-blocking from sci.math
In a procedural discussion that lasted many years, JSH was finally convinced by himself to block himself from posting to sci.math, instead of sci.mathers having to do so. He has infested sci.physics lately with little success, and also alt.math.for.morons. He uses twitter to tweet to himself in... more »

Indefinite sum of general analytic function (inverse forward difference)
Hi. I have an interesting problem I've toyed with for a while. Consider the "indefinite sum" of a function, i.e. finding F such that F (x+1) - F(x) = f(x) for a given f(x). It is to the forward difference operator what the integral is to the derivative operator. The goal is to solve this equation for functions of a real number.... more »
