Finding paths in trees from Random Forests

If you have a set of trees that are produced over a subset of features (Random Forest application in Machine Learning)in order to average their results and classify some x, what techniques could you use to record the paths taken by the trees to understand the decision that was made? Or if that isn't really feasible, what could help you gain insight into what contributed to the classification of some x based on all your trees in your random forest?
