I see that LEF has a sale on their Rhodiola, saying they are
overstocked.

Has anyone tried their brand of Rhodiola? What were the results?

I'm wondering if they are overstocked because it is ineffective.

I've used their "Rhodiola Extract, 3% Rosavins, 250 mg capsules" product
that I bought from them in December of 2007.

I found that if I take a capsule at mid-day or after, I toss and turn all
night that night and don't get much sleep.

So I only take it if I'm expecting to -- for example -- have to do a long
drive late in the evening and need to be wide awake and alert for that.
Otherwise I value a good night's sleep too much to take it.

I haven't tried longer-term lower doses, and looking back I don't know why.
Perhaps I'll try that.

It works too well for me to take on chronic basis. I take it acutely
during the winter when it's super dark here in Finland and feel a lack
of energy. I have not tried any other rhodiola brands but that one
certainly works. Also I have several friends who have reported strong
effects with the LEF rhodiola.

I've tried the LEF rhodiola and honestly I think they are dumping it,
I don't think it will be around again (selling it below cost?). It
didn't do much other than to make me jittery and uncomfortable - and
give me a headache. I don't think that LEF cares much about Rhodiola.
It's really a special plant, and you need to produce it in just such a
manner, and with the right dosage. When you start throwing 250 mg of a
so-so extract in a capsule, 8 out of 10 people are going to feel the
negative effects of Rhodiola, not the positive effects.

I've experimented with many brands. My policies on buying herbs like
this one are to 1) buy it from a company who only makes herbal
products, themselves, and not from a source that has hundreds of
products, 2) go with the dosage recommended by experts (in this case,
the book Rhodiola Revolution) where for Rhodiola it is about 100-150mg
at a time), and then to buy those without any kind of chemical crap
and excipients in it.
