Well, Chance, the truth is that I don't know. We just all have to work
together and share our knowledge and get used to searching for answers
through search engines like Google.
Back in the 1990's, I knew all about computers and networks and how to build
them, repair them, and program them. But you have to become a dedicated
student, constantly learning a deluge of new information just to keep
current. At some point, I lost the will to put that much constant energy
into reading some big, thick book, only to have the technology become
obsolete within a few years and need to read a new big thick, book.
In this case, I just happened to know that there was an incompatibility
problem between people that post to Usenet from Google Groups and people who
reply to those posts via Outlook Express (which got renamed as Live Mail and
became part of the Windows operating system). It was dumb luck that I
happened to know what the problem was.
The way I found out about it was this: I knew that I had to manually add
quotes to posts from people via Google Groups. At first, I thought it was
Google's fault. Then I learned that Microsoft could have handled things on
their side better. I also had heard there was a solution. This was enough to
go on to track down the install via Google and try it myself. It works
great.
I guess the best answer to your question is: Learn to ask questions and
formulate good searches and you can find anything.
