On Aug. 29, TCM is scheduled to telecast the 1950 movie "Stromboli"
starring Ingrid Bergman.
When I saw it previously, I felt that it reminded me of "Suna no
Onna."
If you get to see "Stromboli," please let me know if you agree/
disagree with me.

I have to come to aesthete8's defense on this one particular post.
We've been asking him not to make posts that are just a link.
In this case, he's hasn't done that.
Also, TCM is widely available across the nation via cable so there is a good
chance readers have it.
(For example, I do.)
Of course, it's not really a Japanese language question per se, but I'd say
it's easily a topic people interested in Japanese might discuss, so it's
only mildly off-topic.
I guess, I'm inviting people to take the opposite side of the issue and I'm
bound to read things like: "No, way, this is completely inappropriate," but
my main point is that it's a much better effort on aesthete8's part than
his/her usual post.

portray a traditional setting where a progressive outsider is
compelled to live with a conservative insider. I found it interesting
to observe the contrast (and conflict) of values between a more modern
outsider (who is actually like us) and the more traditional insider
(who is probably like our ancestors).
The outsider believes that the need to feel fulfilled is more
important than living a life of adjustment to nature and society. The
outsider also believes in performance to improve one's circumstances,
i.e., progress, rather than in compliance with the proven and tried-
and-true that ensure continued survival.
