What is the difference?

Is YAKUME closer to the word ROLE as in ROLE OF A PERSON OR POSITION?

Exactly. Compare with ”役職” which is one's job (role) or position in a
company. (Specifically, one's "post.")

義務 is duty or obligation, but does not refer to one's role or position in an
organization.

Most definitely.

For another closely related word, check out 役割 (yakuwari).

This word emphasizes the "role" aspect.

~の役割を果たす　to fill (play) the role of ~

hmmmm, I think "tsutome" (in meaning) is closer to "gimu" than
"yakume".

The closest English word I can think of (now) for "tsutome" is "task".
「それが私達の務めだ」= It is our task. = we must do it.

Now it's your turn to define the difference of "task" and
"obligation"... 8)

Then, as derivative meaning, "tsutome" is used for one's "workplace"
「あなたのお勤めはどちらですか？」 = Where do you work?
(You don't answer the "role" in that "workplace" to this question...)

Sorry, but I don't see how it fits in at all. 大義名分 is a "just cause" not any
sort of duty or obligation that I know of.
