Image Search Project

Dear Friends
I am supposed to do an Image search project .

I have to develop an application which will take image as input and
return all images similar to that.
I dont know from where to start . I have knowledge of image processing
and computer vision . I worked on an OCR project before .

Please advise me from where to start .

It will not be an easy project. In fact you could make a Ph.D.
project, or a career, out of it.

Have you written a paper on your project, if so when can I get a copy, I
might find some very usefull ideas in there.
