The hacker was a college student who had access to a satellite tracking dish
as part of a
summer internship. The hacker intercepted the control codes for analysis
through the simple
method of observing regular GPS control signals backscattered from the moon.
Government officials believe that this was an isolated incident which could
not be repeated
by a hostile government because the highly sophisticated equipment which the
hacker had
access to would not be available to those governments.

This could be a big problem for the DOD and even bigger for those who hate
paper maps.
Also, it took from last summer's internship to April 1st for the media to
release the story?
