Ted
If you have Macintosh, MacGPS Pro will do this. For details see
As I understand it, to get waypoints, tracks and routes into and out of
the G12 it is necessary to use the garmin to garmin protocol. There are
many programs which will do this as part of a mapping program. One which
will JUST transfer such data is G7toWin. It is much smaller and simpler
than full blown mapping software.
Here's my current list of info on software:
==========================================================================
Map based software for the PC:
These are programs for using scanned map images with your GPS.
By telling the program the location of several points on the map it can
then determine the location of any other point on the map, allowing you
to point at map features and click to make waypoints, to display
existing waypoints and tracks, etc. I recommend OziExplorer.
OziExplorer: http://www.oziexplorer.com
GPSU: http://www.gpsu.co.uk/
GPSTrackmaker:

QuoVadis: http://www.quovadis-gps.com/indexe.htm
GPSS: http://www.gpss.co.uk/
Fugawi: http://www.fugawi.com/
Seaclear: http://www.sping.com/seaclear/
Gartrip: http://www.gartrip.de/
G7 to Win is a waypoint, route and track file management tool only and
does not use maps at all. If you just want something for moving data in
and out of your GPS it is ideal and is smaller and simpler than any of
the other programs listed above:

GPSMap is a program for linking the Apple Newton to a GPS to provide
moving map displays:

Coastline profiles:
http://crusty.er.usgs.gov/coast/getcoast.html
This site lets you download "mapgen vector format" files of coastline
profiles from three different international databases (250,000:1,
2,000,000:1 and 5,000,000:1) and one US only database (70,000:1).
The 2,000,000:1 data also includes inland lakes.
This data can be imported into the free version of OziExplorer and then
uploaded to your non-mapping GPS as a track to show coastlines on the
screen. The 250,000:1 data consists of about 10 points per km of
coastline, the 2,000,000:1 data has about 2 points per km of coastline.

I found this somewhere:
"When a route is active, this sentence [WPL] is sent once for each waypoint
in the route, in sequence. When all waypoints have been reported, GPR00 is
sent in the next data set. In any group of sentences, only one WPL sentence,
or an R00 sentence, will be sent."
