WEEKLY TROPICAL CYCLONE SUMMARY #251 MAY 19 - 26, 1996

North Atlantic Basin: No tropical cyclones.

Eastern North Pacific Basin (E of 140 Deg. W): No tropical cyclones.

Central North Pacific Basin (180 Deg. W to 140 Deg. W): No tropical cyclones.

Western North Pacific Basin (W of 180 Deg.):

Tropical Storm Cam: At the start of the summary period, Tropical
Depression 5W was drifting north-northeast through the South China Sea with
30 kt winds. The cyclone continued north-northeast on 20 may as it reached
tropical storm strength. Cam moved northeast on 21 May as it reached a peak
intensity of 45 kt. It moved east-northeast on 22 May and continued this
motion through the rest of its life. Cam became extratropical near 24N 130E
on 24 May.

Although Cam passed near Taiwan and the northern Philippine Islands, there
are no reports of damage or casualties at this time.

North Indian Ocean Basin: No tropical cyclones.

Update on Tropical Cyclone 01B (Summary #250): Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh
reported 36 kt sustained winds at 0000 UTC May 8 as the cyclone made
landfall.

South Indian Ocean Basin (W of 135 Deg. E): No tropical cyclones.

South Pacific Ocean Basin (E of 135 Deg. E): No tropical cyclones.
