WEEKLY TROPICAL CYCLONE SUMMARY #151 JUNE 19-26, 1994

North Atlantic Basin: No tropical cyclones.

Eastern North Pacific Basin (E of 140 Deg. W):

Tropical Storm Aletta: At the start of the summary period, Aletta was
moving west with 40 kt winds. Aletta turned west-northwest on 20 June as it
reached a peak intensity of 45 kt. Rapid weakening followed, and Aletta
dissipated the next day near 17N 131W.

Central North Pacific Basin (180 Deg. W to 140 Deg. W): No tropical cyclones.

Western North Pacific Basin (W of 180 Deg. W):

Tropical Storm Sharon: Tropical Depression 6W formed near 12N 135E on 21
June. The system moved west-northwest from its development through 24 June.
TD-6W moved across Luzon in the Philippines on 22 June, then it reached tropical
storm intensity over the South China Sea on 23 June. Sharon reached a peak
intensity of 50 kt on 24 June. The storm turned north-northwest and made
landfall in southern China on 25 June as a minimal tropical storm. It dis-
sipated over land later that day.

Sharon affected the Philippines and southern China. While there were no
significant wind or pressure reports from the Philippines, heavy rains pro-
duced flooding that caused two deaths. Yangjiang, China reported a minimum
pressure of 998.5 mb at 0000 UTC 25 June as Sharon made landfall. There were
no reports of tropical-tropical storm force winds. While there are no reports
of casualties from China, heavy rains from the storm worsened flooding over
parts of southern China.

Tropical Depression: A tropical depression formed near 12N 117E on 26 June.
At the end of the summary period, it was moving west-northwest with 30 kt
winds.

North Indian Ocean Basin: No tropical cyclones.

South Indian Ocean Basin (W of 135 Deg. E): No tropical cyclones.

South Pacific Ocean Basin (E of 135 Deg. E): No tropical cyclones.
