WEEKLY TROPICAL CYCLONE SUMMARY #135 FEBRUARY 27 - MARCH 6, 1994
North Atlantic Basin: No tropical cyclones.
Eastern North Pacific Basin (E of 140 Deg. W): No tropical cyclones.
Central North Pacific Basin (180 Deg. W to 140 Deg. W): No tropical cyclones.
Western North Pacific Basin (W of 180 Deg. W): No tropical cyclones.
North Indian Ocean Basin: No tropical cyclones.
South Indian Ocean Basin (W of 135 Deg. E):
Tropical Cyclone Kelvina: Tropical Cyclone Kelvina formed near the east
coast of Madagascar near 16S 51E on 6 March. At the end of the summary period,
it was moving south with 40 kt winds. Although this system formed near the
coast, there are no reports of damage, casualties, or significant weather at
this time.
Special South Indian Ocean Update: I've recieved a press report on the
effects of several tropical cyclones.
Tropical Cyclone Hollanda (TC-15S): (Summaries #132-133) Hollanda apparently
scored a direct hit on Mauritius where two people were reported killed.
These press reports also indicate that thousands of people were left home-
less by Tropical Cyclone Edmea as it affected the Madagascan coast near
Brickaville. According to Dave's and my records, Edmea did not come anywhere
near this area. It may be this report is from Tropical Cyclone Daisy which
hit Madagascar earlier in the season.
South Pacific Ocean Basin (E of 135 Deg. E): No tropical cyclones.
Special South Pacific Update: I've recieved late press reports on several
cyclones in this region.
Tropical Cyclone Rewa (TC-05P): (Summaries #126-130) Press reports indicate
that Rewa killed 10 people during its second sweep from New Guinea to eastern
Australia. There is no information on where the casualties occurred.
Tropical Cyclone Sarah (TC-11P): (Summaries #129-131) This system affected
Vanuatu and New Caledonia with strong winds, but there are no reports of damage
or casualties at this time.
