Author's second note: I once again apologize for the flakey behavior of
the hrd-tardis mailer. When it was re-started, it mailed out the copy of
summary #100 that had been stuck for 10 days! I regret any inconvience this

WEEKLY TROPICAL CYCLONE SUMMARY #102: JULY 11 - 18, 1993

North Atlantic Basin: No tropical cyclones.

Special North Atlantic Update:

Tropical Storm Arelene: NHC has recieved press reports indicating that
six people were killed due to Arlene. Five of the casualties were in Mexico,
while the other was in Texas.

Eastern North Pacific Basin (E of 140 Deg. W):

Hurricane Dora: Tropical Deoression 5E formed near 11N 119W on 14 July.
Initially moving west-northwest, the system reached tropical storm intensity
later that day. Dora turned west on 15 July as it reached hurricane strength,
then it turned west-northwest the next day as it reached a peak intensity of
110 kt. Dora moved northwest on 17 July while weakening, then it once again
turned west-northwest on 18 July as it weakened to tropical storm intensity.
At the end of the summary period, Dora was moving west-northwest with 55 kt
winds.

Hurricane Eugene: Tropical Depression 6E formed near 11N 113W on 15 July.
Moving west, the system became a tropical storm the next day. Eugene moved
a little south of west on 17 July as it reached hurricane strength. The storm
then turned north-northwest on 18 July as it reached a peak intensity of 105
kt. At the end of the summary period, Eugene was moving north-northwest with
100 kt winds.

Special Eastern North Pacific Update:

Tropical Storm Beatriz: NHC has recieved press reports that indicate six
people died in Mexico as a result of Beatriz.

Central North Pacific Basin (180 Deg. W to 140 Deg. W): No tropical cyclones.

Western North Pacific Basin (W of 180 Deg. W):

Tropical Storm Lewis: At the start of the summary period, ex-typhoon Lewis
was mving west across the Gulf of Tonkin with 55 kt winds. Lewis made landfall
over northern Vietnam early on 12 July and dissipated over Laos later that day.
Although Lewis affected Hainan Tao Island and northern Vietnam, there are no
reports of damage or casualties at this time.

North Indian Ocean Basin: No tropical cyclones.

South Indian Ocean Basin (W of 135 Deg. E): No tropical cyclones.

South Pacific Ocean Basin (E of 135 Deg. E): No tropical cyclones.
