WEEKLY TROPICAL CYCLONE SUMMARY #117: OCTOBER 24 - 31, 1993
North Atlantic Basin: No tropical cyclones.
Eastern North Pacific Basin (E of 140 Deg. W): No tropical cyclones.
Central North Pacific Basin (180 Deg. W to 140 Deg. W): No tropical cyclones.
Western North Pacific Basin (W of 180 Deg. W):
Tropical Storm Hattie: At the start of the summary period, Hattie was
moving northeast with 50 kt winds. The storm became extratopical on 25 October
near 36N 170E. Although Hattie affected Wake and Minami-Torisima Islands, there
are no reports of damage or casualties at this time.
Typhoon Ira: Tropical Depression 30W formed just southwest of Guam near 13N
144E on 27 October. The system reached tropical storm intensity the next day as
it tracked westward. Ira continued a generally westward motion through the rest
of the summary period. The storm reached typhoon intensity on 30 October, and
it reached a peak intensity of 120 kt on 31 October. At the end of the summary
period, Ira was moving west toward Luzon Island in the Philippines with 120 kt
winds. Although Ira affected Guam just as it was first developing, there are
no reports of damage, casualties, or significant weather.
North Indian Ocean Basin: No tropical cyclones.
South Indian Ocean Basin (W of 135 Deg. E): No tropical cyclones.
South Pacific Ocean Basin (E of 135 Deg. E): No tropical cyclones.
