WEEKLY TROPICAL CYCLONE SUMMARY #238 FEBRUARY 18 - 25, 1996

North Atlantic Basin: No tropical cyclones.

Eastern North Pacific Basin (E of 140 Deg. W): No tropical cyclones.

Central North Pacific Basin (180 Deg. W to 140 Deg. W): No tropical cyclones.

Western North Pacific Basin (W of 180 Deg.):

Tropical Depression: A tropical depression formed near 3N 137E on 25
February. The system dissipated the next day near 4N 136E. Maximum winds in
this short-lived system were estimated at 30 kt.

North Indian Ocean Basin: No tropical cyclones.

South Indian Ocean Basin (W of 135 Deg. E):

Tropical Cyclone Doloresse (TC-14S): At the start of the summary period,
Doloresse was over the Mozambique Channel moving south-southeast at its peak
intensity of 75 kt. Doloresse weakened to a tropical storm before moving into
Madagascar on 19 February. The storm dissipated over land later that day.

There are no reports of damage, casualties, or significant weather
available at this time.

Tropical Cyclone Edwige (TC-16S): Tropical Cyclone Edwige formed near
18S 72E on 22 February. Initially moving south, the system turned southwest
the next day as it reached an initial peak intensity of 45 kt. Edwige turned
west-northwest and weakened to a depression on 24 February, then it dissi-
pated later that day near 20S 63E. The cyclone regenerated to tropical storm
strength on 25 February near 19S 53E, and at the end of the summary period
it was moving west with 35 kt winds.

South Pacific Ocean Basin (E of 135 Deg. E):
