WEEKLY TROPICAL CYCLONE SUMMARY #11: OCTOBER 13 - 20, 1991

North Atlantic Basin:

Tropical Storm Fabian: Tropical Storm Fabian formed in the northwest
Caribbean Sea near 21N 83W on 15 October. Moving northeast, the storm
crossed western Cuba and moved into the Bahamas Isalnds on 16 October.
Later that day, the storm became extratropical near 26N 78W. Maximum winds
in the short lived storm were 40 kt with a minimum central pressure of
1002 mb. Heavy rains affected Cuba, the Bahamas, and southern Florida.
However, there are no reports of damage or casualties at this time.

Eastern North Pacific Basin (E of 140 Deg. W):

Hurricane Marty: At the start of the summary period, Marty was moving
north with winds of 45 kt. On 14 October, Marty turned west-southwest and
passed near Socorro Island. Marty turned west and weakened to a depression
on 15 October, with the westerly course continuing through 16 October.
Marty turned north-northwest on 17 October and finally dissipated near 22N
127W on 18 October.

Central North Pacific Basin (180 Deg. W to 140 Deg. W): No tropical cyclones.

Western North Pacific Basin (W of 180 Deg. W):

Typhoon Orchid: At the start of the summary period, Orchid was east of
Japan accelerating northeastward with 55 kt winds. Orchid became extra-
tropical on 14 October near 45N 155E.

Typhoon Pat: At the start of the summary period, Pat was moving rapidly
northeast with 50 kt winds. Pat became extratropical near 46N 165E on 14
October.

Tropical Depression 25W: Tropical Depression 25W formed on 20 October
near 9N 145E. At the end of the summary period, it was moving northwest
with 30 kt winds.

North Indian Ocean Basin:

Tropical Depression: A tropical depression formed in the Bay of Bengal
near 20N 89E on 13 October. Moving north-northeast, it weakened to a low
pressure area near 22N 90E later the same day. Maximum winds in the poorly-
organized depression are not known for certain, but they are believed to
have been 25 kt.

South Indian Ocean Basin (W of 135 Deg. E):

Tropical Cyclone 2S: Tropical Cyclone 2S started forming near 11S 56E on
16 October. It strengthened to tropical storm intensity as it moved west.
Maximum winds reached 40 kt on 18 October as it continued west toward
the northern end of Madagascar. As the cyclone passed near the island, it
weakened below storm intensity on 20 October. Dissipation occurred later
the same day near 11S 49E.

Tropical Cyclone: This system was warned on by the Reunion and Mauritius
Meteorological Services. A depression formed near 13S 75E on 18 October. It
drifted slowly westward and reached minimal tropical storm intensity on 20
October according to the Reunion Meteorological Service. It then weakened
and dissipated near 13S 74E later that same day. Maximum winds were 35-40
kt. The system was not warned on by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center on Guam.

South Pacific Ocean Basin (E of 135 Deg. E): No tropical cyclones.
