KISTERS ( http://www.kisters.net ) is proud to share our experiences
with sharing hydrological data using open standards and our new KiWIS
tool at the Open Geospatial Consortium Technical Meeting in Boulder CO
Sept 19-23, 2011.

KiWIS represents a major advancement in technical capability for water
agencies wanting to share their hydrological data through the Internet
via new open standards. Open standards like WaterML, SOS and OpenMI
have been developed primarily to overcome interoperability issues.
The driver behind these standards is to make the data more accessible
through services so that everybody can find what that they are looking
for with a discreet and defined set of commands and retrieve the data
in a format that you can understand.

This is not just limited to just a geographical area. It is a global
trend!

The KISTERS system has been used to operate the data that the Global
Runoff Data Center collects. The KISTERS system is used in
combination with TSM, the Time Series Management Server from KISTERS.
On top of TSM we set our interoperability server called KiWIS. KiWIS
is able to publish data from TSM through SOS WaterML 2. KiWIS
provides one API which combines several standards. So besides the SOS/
WaterML,it can also exchange data using WaterOneFlow and WaterML 1.
There are also some defacto standards such as ESRI layer packages. So
with KiWIS package on top of the GRDC system we are able to bring the
GRDC data into the cloud.
