Hyundai Shows Fuel Cell Tucson
(11 Feb 04)
We were expecting the Tucson 4x4 (see previous story) to make its
first European appearance at Geneva, and so it will, but Hyundai has
moved its plans on a further step, and will show the new car not just
with the standard engine but also in a version powered by a hydrogen
fuel cell.
That model will be available as part of a small business-users fleet
in the US, but not on this side of the Atlantic, towards the end of
the year.
The Hyundai display at Geneva will also feature the E3, the latest
C-segment concept from the company's European Design Centre in the
heart of Opel territory (no connection) at Rüsselsheim.
Hyundai's Europe-wide January sales boomed, with a 24% increase over
the same period last year to finish on 23,835. Top seller was the
Getz, ahead of the introduction of the diesel version. It accounted
for something like 7000 sales, with the Santa Fé and Terracan 4x4s
registering more than 5000, and the Matrix around 2700.
