No significant warming for 17 years 4 months

As Anthony and others have pointed out, even the New York
Times has at last been constrained to admit what Dr.
Pachauri of the IPCC was constrained to admit some months
ago. There has been no global warming statistically
distinguishable from zero for getting on for two decades.

The NYT says the absence of warming arises because
skeptics cherry-pick 1998, the year of the Great el Niño,
as their starting point. However, as Anthony explained
yesterday, the stasis goes back farther than that. He
says we shall soon be approaching Dr. Ben Santer’s 17-
year test: if there is no warming for 17 years, the
models are wrong.

Usefully, the latest version of the Hadley
Centre/Climatic Research Unit monthly global mean surface
temperature anomaly series provides not only the
anomalies themselves but also the 2 s uncertainties.

Superimposing the temperature curve and its least-squares
linear-regression trend on the statistical insignificance
region bounded by the means of the trends on these
published uncertainties since January 1996 demonstrates
that there has been no statistically-significant warming
in 17 years 4 months:

the starting and ending points. The starting point is almost always 1998, a
particularly warm year because of a strong El Niño weather pattern. "

Warming has slowed over the previous 20 years. But warming is still occuring.
The article discusses the search for reasons for the change.

Just look at that screaming temperature rise plots would you! And the
important thing is to understand is that even if go so far as to plot
actual temperature data (rather than virtual temperatures) the way I've
done and posted here before, all you need is the proper explanation.

Jay if you knew any science at all, you'd understand that the reason the
land surface temperatures aren't rising is because all that heat trapped
by CO2 GHG is going into ice and especially into the oceans where it
sinks to the bottom and warms the planet unnoticed by the deniers like
you!

Jay you really need to study some climate science. I recommend one of Sam
Wormley's climate change courses. Then you might believe.

Your heading said 17 years insignificant warming. Of course that is a
lie. Why did you post a lie in the heading. The last decade was the
warmest since records have been taken. Glaciers are melting along with
polar ice caps.
