My wife worries a lot about maintaining the sound sync in her desktop video work. Aspect ratio problems on broadcasts

I notice a lot of broadcasts these days with shots with wrong aspect ratio. I notice it primarily on news broadcasts. The studio shots are fine. On local stations I am watching wide screen (I don't pay satellite company extra for signals I can get from antenna). What is the advantage of an "upconverting" player/recorder if

the TV also has interpolation capability? With my upconverting Toshiba D-R560KU DVD recorder connected with both HDMI and component cables to my Toshiba 32AV502R TV (720p), the component connection gives a much better picture in that the edges are sharper AND have less prominent halos. Are LCD TVs ok for standard cable?

This is one of the only newsgroups that seemed even somewhat relevant. I remember a couple of years ago I tried an LCD TV (about 23") with standard cable and the picture was lousy. Have LCD TVs improved in the last couple of years? Are any brands better than others? Thanks.

No Sound or Spanish Only

Have never had this problem before today and I'm guessing I hit a button or combination of buttons to set reception to the secondary audio programming (SAP) - in my case Spanish for some stations, no audio for others. Neither unit set or remote have SAP buttons and no help from websites or tech support.... more »
