I have a Sony KV-32FQ80U which developed a fault recently - it just wouldn't
turn on. The green "on" light lit, but nothing else happened, not even the
"Boom" noise that accompanies a Sony CRT TV start-up.

The set was under extended warranty and the guys came out, three weeks later
it was diagnosed as "A capacitor", and returned to me.

It has now developed a similar problem which I am sure they will say is a
new porblem and as the warranty has now expired, will not cover... After
viewing for a while, the TV will stop taking commands from the remote - nor
the Sky remote or even the front panel controls. I am locked on a channel
which I cannot change or even alter the volume. I have to switch it off, if
I try to switch it back on again I get the same result as I did before it
went for repair. I have to leave it for a while then try and all is well
again.

One interesting (possibly) point. The first time it happened it co-incided
with my connecting the Sky box via a SCART socket, so after switching the TV
of at the front button I pulled the SCART lead out and got a nasty shock, I
assume static more than electric (or at least I hope so!!!).

Any ideas anyone?

Ron

I would not be able to tell you over an email the exact components that
could be damaged. What you are indicating from describing that you got a
shock when disconnecting a device from the TV set, is that there was some
type of short, power, or grounding problem. This may have caused damage,
most likely to some components that have something to do with the TV's
system control. This is not something you will be able to service yourself.
