Do XHL T8 tubes need special ballasts?
I just got some TCP 31032835XHL T8 tubes to try, 32W 48". Put them in a 2 bulb fixture and turned them on, but they look pretty dim. Did I screw up? Do you need a special ballast or something, to run these? The advertising sounded like they're supposed to be super bright white with high lumen output.... more »

4 pin dimmable bulbs - how do these configure?
I found an interesting compact fluorescent bulb, a 32w bulb GX24Q3 COMPACT fluorescent 4 pin 3500K F32/ Says it's dimmable and uses a base GX24q-3. Now what does that fit in to dim it? Do they have ceiling fixtures for them, table lamps or what?

Fixture transmission of light?
We were talking here before, about the amount of light that a given fixture lets out. Are there any standards for measurements of the percentage of light that T8 tubes, for example, put out, versus how much escapes from the bottom of the fixture diffuser? Like a transmissivity percentage standard or something?... more »

This goes back to the topic I started posting about here recently, but I guess it's evolving into something, based on some observations. The thought process started with bird lighting, as I mentioned. Look at the right hand photo on page 2 of this: [link]... more »

IR Remote Interference
We're having problems with IR remote controls not working in the room where there are a number of overhead fluorescent lamps. Obviously interference with the carrier frequency. Can we install RFI filters on the ballasts to eliminate. Are there any other solutions?
