Welding tables
--Ahoy fellow shop weenies! I've got a sturdy welded table frame that's about 36" square and it's currently topped with a 1/8" thick 48" square steel sheet. But it's just not flat enough for good work. Would a 3/8" thick sheet be good enough? Stiffness goes up with the square of thickness so it's just coming down to how much I can afford.. ;-)... more »

Confused on procedure.. 3G cert test.
I will probably be testing for 3G and 4G Mig certs in the near future. I've been welding for many years, but the majority of the work in our shop is 16ga. tube, so the idea of 3/8" plate is a little outside of my comfort zone. I was looking at the following website, which seems quite helpful, but I... more »

Ping: Steamboat Ed
Ed, I looked a bit through your online stuff. At one time didn't you rig up a Sotz barrel stove with a thermostat and hook it to your computer? For your workshop?

Welding a bobcat backhoe bucket
I bought a backhoe bucket for a Bobcat, as part of a big package deal (not complaining). The bucket has rust and rusted through on one side. Can I just take a 1/8 steel plate and weld it as a patch? Should I do it on the outside or inside? I could also just sell it as is, with rust damage shown.... more »
