Does Sony feed a cookie in when using a password and wont download if it
isn't present?
Is that how it works?

( probably with a helpline etc. )
Without being able to see what's available first.
Only the big boys can afford that.
More broken Sony **** heading for the landfill sites.
Why don't Sony do the descent thing and allow downloads at say $7 a go ?
We will have to start advising our customers to buy another brand next time.

No $300 a year for the ESI subscription. Includes factory training
information and other information beyond service manuals.

Quite frankly, if you think that $300 is only affordable to the 'big boys'
you are in the wrong business. $300 would be easily paid off in the first 3
Sony big screen repairs.

$300 is paid off in time saved repairing less than 3 Sony smaller items per
month.

$300 is less than one days labor output in a small shop with around three
quality techs.

I run a small shop with just myself and a trainee that I hope to make into a
real tech. It has easily paid for us.

No, just to the guys who mke the investment. We do lots of Sony and are
efficient at it. Others who don't do the training and invest in the service
subscription find them near impossible. That's ok with me.

Well, I can see both sides of the issue. The subscription fee does weed
out the less serious servicers, but it also affects the availability of good
service in areas where there are few subscribers. This is less of a problem
for Sony because they have a much larger network of ASCs than many mftrs. A
company like JVC, for instance has bigger holes in its servicer network.
Hitachi gets kudos, IMO, for offering its service support for free to any
shop that signs up on their site. They are getting lots of sales referrals
from servicers for this reason. Could be why they are making a big dent in
Mitsubishi and Toshiba's RPTV share in many markets.

I believe a much bigger issue is the lack of quality training from the
mftrs.

if we just want to find the value of a burnt out resistorin a TV
$300 is a bit much for a schematic.

Did you try scraping it down and measuring on either side to get an
idea of the possible value?
