Brother printer maintenance mode not working

Following the factory service manual instructions re. how to access
“maintenance mode” on HL-2270DW laser.

Steps in the manual say:
with front cover open hold down Go button and turn on power. Hold Go button
until all LEDs go on, then release. Now press Go several times (unique to
each function) to get the desired result (diagnostic printouts, etc.).

I get nothing but an “Error” LED.

The printer is otherwise working fine.

Anybody share their experience with this routine?

Turns out the instructions were incomplete.

Through trial and error I figured it out.
