I just picked up a Advent Videobeam 1000A that appears to have been
well used. I opened the cover and powered it up and the 3 tubes all
fired up. I am utterly comitted and determined to bringing this
machine fully up to its new condition. I would appreciate any info
or service manuals that would guide me in doing this. Also, I would
like hear from anyone who can supply parts for this beast. Please
contact me at "ken...@kaldalons.com" with any info, suggestions
or anything else you can think of about the Videobeam 1000A.
Cheers,
me
PS: Surprisingly, an Advent Videobeam 1000A barely fits into the back
seat of a Volvo 740T.

Hi Bill,
I have not really done more than quickly power it
up to see if the tubes heated. One thing I
noticed is that there was no light coming from
the business end of the projectors but I
don't know if there is suppoesed to be if there
is no video source. The volume pot was
very scratchy and it looked like a few wires
were disconnected. I would like to get the
proper calibration and test procedure before
I power it again.
Does anyone know... should the unit be projecting
light as soon as it is powered?
What does the operator's manual say? Anyone
know of a shop in Vancouver that could help
out?
Bill, I would love to get the address of that
company that you remember had the boards.
Thanks,
K.

Before you buy.
With the "Normal/External" switch (next to the volume control) set to
the "Normal" position and no antenna source, you should see snow and
have an airy hiss from the speaker as with any normal TV. If it were
set the the "External" position and no source at the external in
connector, then yes, the tubes will be completely blanked. Contrast
control turned all the way down will also blank the tubes.
If the filaments are cold, it's about 20 seconds before picture. If the
filaments are running on standby (if the unit remains connected to 120V
outlet) the image should start to appear within a couple of seconds.
There is usually a thumbtack on the front lip of the projector
positioned directly above the front leg of the projector. Measure from
that tack to the front inside corner of each screen leg 82.5 inches for
correct projector positioning.
The 1000A does have protective circuitry that could blank the tubes
(failure of vertical or horizontal deflection circuits, anode over-
voltage).
