I am wondering if someone out there with superior TV repair skills could
help me please.

I have a old style large (speakers built into sides of box) "Rank Arena
Autocolour" TV (Serial # AS1417.1). The picture was fine until a problems
arose...

1. When the TV is switched on sometimes it is fine. Other times it comes
on where all the image is compressed down horizontally all the way across
the screen in the middle which is approx 4 in width.

I then meddled with some internal Pots (naughty naughty). The result
being...

2. After turning on the TV, the sound comes on first and as what seems to
be just the start of the image appearing the image and sound switches off.
Image and sound remain off.

Could this be the Hsync and Vsync controls I have meddled with or something
else or both?

Can anyone please help? My 4 kids are driving me crazy with just 1 TV.

Best Regards

Sounds like you started with a simple (usually) vertical deflection
problem...a bad connection or intermittent component...

Do you have access to a variac, so you can try to start the set with
reduced AC? You may have cranked the B+, or who knows what else. Do
you know which pots you moved? At this stage it should be looked at by
someone with repair experience, the proper equipment, and hopefully a
manual. You could try to twiddle it back into working again, using
ONLY the pots that you've touched so far, but...sometimes these
adjustments are forgiving, but sometimes they require a lot of
precision...hope you didn't get at the AFT/IF coils...Good luck.

Shoulda marked the position of those
pots before you "meddled" with them. :(

Hi,

Could you please supply the model number.
With most of the old Rank CTV's the number is usually 'C' and then four
numbers.

I believe that is the number of the Australian Standard governing TV
antennae. Try again :-)

Hi, everyone, I know this is somewhat of a late entry, however I've just managed to pick up one of these Rank Arena c-2634 AutoColour models for restoration - AND SAVING SOME AUSTRALIA'S manufacturing history from the dump.
If anyone can point me to a service manual at all, I would be extremely grateful!

Check elektrotanya. They have all sorts of obscure schematics.

You would most likely have better luck with responses by starting your
own, fresh posting, instead of reviving one that is a quarter-century
old.

After the last of the 16 mounting screws has been removed from an access cover,
it will be discovered that the wrong access cover has been removed.
