There is also a possiblity that there is a frayed or improperly
connected wire to the speaker boxes. There is the possiblity that
one or both of the speaker boxes have a defective part in the
crossover, or a bad driver unit.
There is also a possiblity that there is a failing part in the output
stage that is going defective, thus causing the protection to shut the
unit down.
If in the case that you are playing your reciever excessivly loud, and
the output stage is overheating, the unit will also go into the
protection mode...

I am not sure of this modelnumber but Sony has had a few models where the
ground connections would come loose ( soldeing or screws loose ) . try
tapping the pc board to see if it provokes the problem or corrects it .
