Our nearly two year old Panasonic microwave oven model NN7555A works fine, but
for the last few months the door has been hesitating before opening. It has a
button to depress which lifts a white plastic piece that pushes the door's
brown plastic catch up and over another white plastic structure. When we push
the button, initially the door would just hesitate for a split second before
opening. The problem progressed until it would occasionally not open at all.
But it then opens easily if we lift the free edge about 1 mm. The difficult
aspect is that this behavior is intermittent. It's become pretty consistent
at home after some hours of resting, but repetitively pushing the button gives
brisk, normal opening behavior every time. So we took it for service and paid
$55 to an authorized local Panasonic service person who adjusted the internal
latching mechanism and reported that he saw no worn part to replace. As
soon as we brought it home, it began to display the brief hesitation again,
and now that has progressed over a few weeks to occasionally failing to open
until we lift the door slightly. Of course, when I brought it back to the
guy this afternoon, it wouldn't misbehave in front of him. So we agreed that
I'll keep it at home for another few weeks to see if a more consistent pattern
emerges to point us in the right direction. But in the meantime, does anyone
have suggestions? (Panasonic's web site declines to provide individual
advice.)

Make sure it is on a flat, level surface - shim it if necesssary.

They would have found serious door misalignment so it must be something at
your end!

I know this sounds all too simple but check the inside door edge for grease or
old food gunk causing the door to stick to the outer edge of the oven
cavity.I've had several cases where just cleaning the door and oven surface
fixed this very intermittent problem.

[snip]

This my not be your problem, BUT don't think this is silly, as it does happen.

Carefully clean the front face of the oven cavity and the inside face of the door where they touch. I have
frequently found residual food particles that can cause the door to stick. By lifting the door you break this
"stiction".

Also look carefully IF there are any labels on the face of the oven. I have had problems with both of these
areas by glue seeping under the label. Sanyo have problems here. Normally Panasonic don't put
labels in that area in NZ, but they "may" for the US market.

By the way, although nothing to do with your problem, when cleaning, NEVER, NEVER go near the
keypad with any cleaning solution. These are very volotile and can migrate between the keypad layers
and damage the keypad. To clean the keypad, use a well wrung out damp cloth ONLY.

Also, never spray a cleaning solution into the holes where the door catches enter. This can get on the
microswitches.

My Panasonic nn sf464m has started to do this too. It's only a year old, did anyone find a fix?

Usual cause is sagging door due to hinge wear. Maybe you can adjust it & test for leakage & interlock alignment.
Yes, probably too late for those that wanted to know.

Don't know the model number, but WD40 in the latch fixed mine.
