So I got a free Magnavox MS3250. The tube goes black about 10 seconds after
power up. By 'black' I mean it's just like you turned the power off, but the
power led is still on. If you cycle power it will do it again.

I read the repairfaq but didn't see anything that covered this particular
problem.

It sure seems like a power supply issue. Any suspect components I should
check first?

Thanks,
Paul

Paul Dito:
Your hunch about a power supply issue could be correct. I would check the
components in the power supply as they could be suspect. Check the pre and
post regulated B+ and any flyback derived B+ voltages and components.

Vertical deflection circuit and its associated scan loss protect signal to
the system control would be where I would start.

I believe the chassis in this set is an "M800". There have been problems
with this chassis flyback. The screen control drifts causing shutdown. The
screen voltage is critical according to Philips. This chassis also had
problems with solder connections around high volt transformer, switch mode
transformer, vert output, etc. If it was manufactured in early 2002, the
Micro/Signal process IC 7200 is also suspect.

Sorry, I should have included more detailed info.

The chassis number is C121. It was manufactured in September of 2001.

I'll check solder joints.

Other clues:

- If I keep changing channels the set will stay on.

- When the set powers off, I have to hit the power button twice to get it to
turn back in
