The designs are not on the machine :-)

6.0.0.120 is the newest. This was just corroborted by Skype support via
email. They pointed me to this site that has all the versions from
newest back to the one the Pilgirms brought over:

http://www.oldapps.com/skype.php

What I don't know is whether this download site is safe.

Well, you can never be truely 'safe', but if anecdotes are any help, I've
used that site before.  Believe I was downgrading from Acrobat Reader 8
(new crap) to v.5 (somewhat more stable, doesn't support new PDFs).  That
was before I discovered Foxit (haven't seen it crash yet, supports new
PDFs), of course. :)

Yup, I also use Foxit. It does have two downside, doesn't render quite
as well and also doesn't allow PDF thumbnails in directories (that was
is a major shortcoming).

But ... it doesn't crash much and that's key. My tolerance level for
poorly written or notoriously crashing software is very low.

True, I've noticed it seems to make Computer Modern look bold on every
other page.  Antialiasing error?

I've never had thumbnail PDFs so I can't complain :)

Well, I installed an older version I got from Jim ... it still no work!
Except now the SW blitzes off instantly instead of staying on as long as
I don't touch anything in the error message.

Sent an email to Skype support but I guess right now that has them
stumped. No answer yet.

I guess so. I saw on the web that lots of people have found Skype to
cause DEP errors. DEP is part of modern processors (Intel and AMD), so
not part of any of my firewall protections.

> I'm still betting it's CRAPTURE >:-}

But the rental license ran out a long time ago, it never starts anymore.
I kept it on the PC in case I ever want to use it as a viewer (Cadence
said viewer use is ok). Maybe I better nuke it then? Haven't ever needed
it as a viewer so far because, not surprisingly, not too many clients
use Orcad anymore.

Most definitely not for something like Skype. That would kill a whole
day, with the usual license server hiccups and all.

Not according to the Internet. After voting Orcad and Acrobat Reader off
the island there is no other software that causes any such problems.

I'll see if I can convince my client to use a web conference service of
better quality. If not I'll load the new version again. That one at
least won't nuke itself until I click something in the error message
box. So the error box will become the "new shut down button".

Not dotnet.  It can get screwed up in ways that require a difficult
complete removal and reinstallation.  I have had this happen on two

I used Revo Uninstaller to clean up a couple computers with .net
problems.  It cleaned all traces of .net out of the registry.  Start
with the newest version & work your way back till it's all gone.  Some
other programs may require repair or reinstallation, because they were
linked to corrupt packages.

<http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html> I
used the freeware version, since they were not business computers.

I checked and it seems legit.  Doesn't seem to be the same site i used to
use for older software.  I am not seeing complaints about it.  The site i
remember as being valid, clean and safe is:

http://oldversion.com/

Both seem highly regarded.  I feel quite safe using oldversion.  You could
download from each and compare the files before doing anything else.

YMMV

Yep.  About one step below par for the company that created Vista.  The
