I just ran into some more japanese software quality with a sony SNC-cs50
network camera.

the camera forgot its passwords and the reset with a pin in the rear only
sometimes actually resets the camera to factory defaults, and of course
the default settings are completely bizarre anyways.

I sailed that piece of shit into the dumpster.

That bring up my question from a week or so ago.

is there any software of any sort from japan in any device that's not
complete and pure garbage, or doesn't have a negative usability rating?

Also any favorite brands of network cameras, not from sony?

That depends an awful lot on what you are trying to do and how much you
can afford. First tier PoE video cameras can cost over US $1000, Logitech
Webcams can be had for US $30.

so what's in between these days?

the idea is to have better than webcam level video quality.

one common problem with security cameras is yes, you can see somebody fuss
with something, but no you can't really tell who it was or what they're
walking off with.

For the same $500 range this older camera was in, JVC seems to offer an HD
camera, but JVC has no support that I'm aware of, and I question their
ability to write functional software as well.

The stuff from Axis is really expensive these days, at least I know that
yes, they can actually be reset into a usable state.
