hi,
is there any (preferably free) software to convert relatively simple
circuits to a stripboard layout? it would save a lot of drawing on
graph paper. or is there a better alternative ? i occasionally have to
knock up the odd small cicuits for whatever project needs it. hope this
is not too basic a question.......thanks

Do you mean schematic to circuit board layout? If so, try Kicad or
perhaps the free edition of Eagle.

(Google is your friend)

not quite what i had in mind, ...direct conversion of a circuit layout
to veroboard (stripboard) is what i meant, but thanks for the quick
reply

That would mean auto-placement onto a very limited layout pattern (vero
strips). I really doubt that there is anything. Even auto-placement
without any restrictions is rather iffy from what I have seen. You can
obtain autoplacement routines for many CAD packages but most layouters
do that completely by hand.

Jeff,
I didn't find it that useful either. Just pointing to possible options.
I'll have to give yours a try. Thanks.

Vutrax is free up to 256 pins (surely enough for Stripboard)
and is available for both Windows and Linux.

For Stripboard (Veroboard) there is a supplementary Software
Advice Note (SAN 206) obtainable from the support section of
the web sites, that outlines methods available for handling
these prototyping boards with or without schematic entry.
