Could somebody tells me the true difference between a marine battery and
a regular lead battery except the price?

Perhaps nothing. If by "marine" battery you mean a "deep
cycle" storage battery, then the difference is in the
construction; a true deep cycle battery will be constructed
of much heavier plates and will be rated for many hundreds
of discharge/recharge cycles. It will cost a lot more.
Slapping "marine" on the label means almost nothing.

If you merely need a starting battery on a boat, however, go
get a Sears battery for cheap. Don't try to run lights,
bilge pump, fresh water pump, GPS, radar, DC blender for
daquiris, etc. from it.

If you want a thorough read on this subject, get Nigel
Calder's boat maintenance book (2nd ed., "Boatowner's
Mechanical and Electrical Manual").

Good luck,
